7" Concentric that stays mounted for most all-purpose hunting needs, be it urban Coin Hunting, working renovation or demolition sites, or more out-of-the-way Relic Hunting sites.
5" Double-D I have on a spare lower rod for quick changes when dealing with very dense, extremely challenging trashy environments, especially with an abundance of nails, other iron, and rusty tin.
5X9½ Double-D open-frame for more open areas where targets are well spaced and perhaps the primary trash targets are iron nails.
I don't use the standard 7X11 DD because it was with all my stolen search coils last October. Even then I only used it for Beach Hunting. The 5X9½ DD handles most spare-trash searches for me.
I don't use the 4X7½ Double-D because I found it handy for some urban Coin Hunting, but the 7" Concentric covers those needs. I put the 4X7½ DD to work in some side-by-side tests a year ago March against the CoRe, Relic, Racer and Racer 2 and other makes and models with smaller-size coils on a very tough test in iron nails and it did very poorly, which is why we now have the excellent 5" DD for the Impact to tackle really challenging conditions. The test target was a tiny, thin 1836 Capped Bust Half-Dime which is quite small and used on the NBPT. I hunt in very densely littered sites, and that's why the 5" DD for the Impact is my 2nd choice in search coils.
