Coil not found?

My hunting partner uses a CTX. He has complained that for the past three hunts that he doesn't think his detector is working right. He said at one point Coil not detected appeared on his screen and he cut it off and back on and no problems.I hunt with a Nox 800 and he ask me to let him scan my targets. His detector wouldn't pick up my targets. Anyone else have these type problems? He was using his stock coil.

'Coil not detected' errors are frequently connection issues at the cable/box connection.
Remove the cable, and check for corrosion (or moisture), then make sure the connector is snugged up.
While he's in there check the controller/box connector, as well.

Another source of that error is a cable going bad at the coil end.
Sometimes the strain of the coiled cable will cause the outer insulation to crack, and let moisture in.

Finally, I've heard of that error occuring when water gets in places it shouldn't....like the usb connector.

Good luck,
mike

Mine is on its way back from repair for a similar problem and we're still not sure whats wrong. Everything at repair checked out. If its losing contact with an object, this is what I'd suggest. First do everything that Trodjor suggested to rule out those problems. If everything fine hopefully you have a different coil you can switch and rule out a bad coil. Thats how I knew I didnt have a coil problem. Yea turning off and on or even a restart will not solve the problem. Does your friend use wireless phones or plug in and which phones. Check the external connectors on phones to rule out this issue. I use a SunRay phone with a WM10 connector box and when/, not if I develop the problem I will plug it into the controller to see if its the phone or the WM10. If that doesnt work well don't want to thing of that right now. Best.
