will be in Florida for a month, plan to do a lot of beach hunting. i have an explorer SE . would you use it in the water?
i know not to get the box wet, what the corrosive salt water?
Be careful, an accidental drop and it's a gonner. Do not raise the coil above the height of the control box as water inside the shaft could run into the control unit. You'll need to wipe the entire detector down after each use to remove the salt residue and remove the coil cover to clean out the sand. Get an Excal and you do not have to worry about it.
Have a good time....What coast? Surf conditions would be a big consideration with a non water proof unit in a salt water environment...only you can decide....you need a scoop in the water, saw a guy with a snow shovel on the beach today!!!!Good Luck HH bob.oz

Yep, the scoop just makes things a lot easier and efficient especially if your in the sand behind the condos there will be lots of bottle tops, pull tabs, aluminum foil and junk. Bending up and down will get old real fast without a scoop and not to mention the SE will go deep!
FYI - there isn't much of beach left on Redington, the beach erosion from TS Debby took it's toll on our beaches, you can probably find some pictures on line.
Regardless you are going to have a great time, if you get chance check out the Middle Grounds Grill in Treasure Island they have great food!
You will have alot more beach to detect,as well as larger amount of people to area,if you go a few miles south to Treasure Island,Madeira ,and St.Pete Bch..Good Luck HH bob.oz
I don't know anything about the S E, but I know some detectors that if you lift then over your head, the water will roll down the shaft to the Control Box, then its over
Hey John. I'll be at Treasure Island Florida mid week july 18th. i'll have my excal. swinging the sand. Hopefully a little cooler there than Ohio has been.
