Coil for trashy area (homesites)

Canewrap

New member
Would I be better off with a 7" concentric coil or a 4" for when searching around a homesite or trashy CW camp? I'm looking to add a small coil to my Eldorado. I already have the 12X10 for relic hunting in open areas and for finding camps.

hi canewrap, i personally like the new 5.75 concentric coil. it's not to small so you can leave it on your detector most of the time, except when your in open fields then you want your bigger coil. the concentric is better because it is more sensitive to small objects and has great separation, if bad and good target are close together. also will detect deeper than a DD. of course if the ground your hunting in is highly mineralized, then the 7 inch DD would work. although will not be as sensitive, but in that type of ground will work better. hope this helps.

Hi Canewrap, I have and use both the 7"concentric and the 4" on an Eldorado and like them both. The 7" serves nearly as well as the stock coil, yet slips thru the trash a bit better. The 4" is superb for really heavy trash, pinpoints dead on, and is a joy to swing, but does cause one to hunt slow and methodically which we should do anyway. I haven't tried the 5.75 coil as I've had the other two since before it came out and haven't felt I needed to split the difference. From what I've read in different forums, those that have it seem to like it a lot.
Whatever you choose, I think you'll soon wonder how you got along without a small coil in your arsenal.
