Coil for relic hunting?

Chip Cannon

New member
Always been beach/park coinshooter; wondering which coil to use for relic hunting. 5" DD or 11" that came with Omega. Going to Louisiana for CW relics. Would be happy to find one bullet.

If you are Relic hunting it would have to be the 11'' coil, the small 5'' one is good but you would need the extra depth and ground coverage that only the larger coil can give you,i dont live in the the US as i am UK based but we would always go for a large coil.

The 5" is better for high trash, high mineralization or high EMI hunting. It pinpoints super well. Most relic hunting you want greater coverage and depth. Most relic hunting areas are not high problem areas for the things you need the small coil for so that is why the 11' is almost always the better choice.
The Omega is a great mid-range unit. Work on proper ground balancing and focusing on threshold in all metal, looking for soft, repeatable, deep hits over id numbers. Dig iffy hits until you are confident then keep doing it until you are done. Or listen to someone who knows better. :clapping:
Good luck & HH!

11" DD for relics.
