Coil Epoxy

Eric from NC

New member
I epoxied my Exacalibur II with Loctite Marine Epoxy and I was surprised about how different the detector performed. Not only did I notice a difference in weight, the machine acts more stable.
Tone was more destinguishable on each metal encountered. I was having trouble telling the difference between quarters and nickles. I blamed this on the standard headphones and the outside noise, wind and waves, but now it is much more clear and easy to tell the difference.
I noticed that the swing speed was not as important, was less sensitive. I still hunted slow but did not have that tone difference when I had a fast change in direction of the coil, that could be quite annoying.
Overall it seems to be much more stable without all that sand and salt water sloshing around in the cover. and its much easier to maintain. I was cleaning the cover every twenty minutes or so and it took away from my limited time at low tide.
The coating of epoxy was easy to apply, just took my time and it went on easy. The coating is strong and smooth. I used two tubes of Loctite, found on sale at Home Depot for $2.99. I'm happy, so far, with this proceedure.
