Coil ear break prevention.............

Hawkeye Jim

New member
Seeing how I just recently purchased a X-505 and reading some of the previous posts pertaining to coil ears breaking due to the space between the coil ears being a tad larger than the shaft, I decided to take some preventive measures and make some spacers.

I took the plastic lid from an Ice Cream bucket --- drilled several 5/16" holes using a couple of blocks of wood for a pilot hole --- then traced the original rubber washer onto the plastic lid and cut them out with a scissors --- one new washer is just the perfect fit between the coil ears!

And here I was thinking of making a whole new shaft and mount. That seems a lot simpler.

I did the same thing out of a milk container, however i pulled the rubber washer out of the lower shaft and made mine to fit behind the rubber washer. Now my 9" fits good and it doesn't bend my other coils either.
