Not stupid at all and I should have been flogged for not mentioning it. Hopefully Minelab would have that as one of the first things to ask before they accept a coil back on an RMA or send one out.
Bill, I would have been curious to see if an automatic or manual noise cancel would have fixed the problem. One of my 18th century farms recently installed an electric fence around a large portion of the perimeter and rendered a large area of the farm into a "more difficult to detect zone" since the CTX would somewhat randomly scream out a 12:45 tone and then a lower less desirable tone. I tried automatic and manual noise cancelling but it wouldn't make it any better. I spent half the time swinging the coil over an area again just to make sure the 12:45 I heard wasn't real. I was well over 150 feet from the fence too I would have to pace it off but probably more like 225 or more... Unreal....
