Coil covers

When I ordered the Compadre I also ordered a coil cover for it. With my Garrett the coil cover is angled in just a hair on the edge so it grips the coil easily but is no problem to remove, just pop it off. However with the Tesoro while the coil cover fits like a glove it's sides are straight and it does not want to stay in place. Any suggestions, I know it should be removed to be cleaned but need a way to hold it in place better. Also I've run into a few folks that tell me coil covers are not even necessary. Any advice from more experience users would be welcome.

JMC,

Just take some masking tape and run it around the inside edge of the coil cover, shazam! it's fixed.

As to necessary - for the most part probablly not unless you swing in rocky ground or rub abrasive sand a lot. Passed that it's pretty much a personal preference. I use them by preference as replacing a cover is much less expensive than replacing a coil and in spite of what you may hear, they DO NOT affect depth, but may add enough weight to bother some. I have one that fits loosely as you mention and I just put a layer of whatever tape is handy on several locations inside the rim - enought to make it fit reasonably securely.

IMO...the cover isn't necessary...I seldom use them and when I do it is because it came that way. I prefer the uncovered coil...it keeps unwanted dirt from accumulating in the cover...and just feels better...even lighter. Most coils are built to last...especially the Tesoros.
