Coil Cover ???

DaytonaGold

Member
I never knew that this detector had a coil cover on it, nor does anywhere in the manual does it state it has one already on it. Can someone point out where the manual states this? I sent my detector in for repairs because I thought the coil was defective only to find out it that the coil cover was only coming off. It really pisses me off because if I would have known this I would have not shipped it back and be w/o my detector for 3 weeks now.

Could someone post a video of how this thing goes on or comes off?

It just goes on one way. Now that you know about the coil cover remember to check it occasionally for sand and other build up and keep it clean. HH :minelab:

DaytonaGold, The cover is a little difficult to pry off to clean the sand and water out, but it pops back on real easy and no, I didn't see anything in the manual about a cover, but the description of accessories that came with my from the dealer, when I ordered it said that it came with a cover and I got it from Bart at Big Boys Hobbies.

Oh, I see. I got mine from Kellyco, looking at the package now I do see "coil cover" included. I still would have had no idea that a cover was on the coil though since it didn't come separately. Thanks for your reply.

When I hunt on the beach and in wet sand I don't use the cover do to how much black sand it picks up in the cover. And after a while the detector go crazy do to the black sand. I don't think I will hunt enough to ware out any of my coils the stock or the 17 inch coil.

On Page 59 the reference to the Skidplate for all the coils its listed as an accessory along with all the other items that came with the package. A few are options.
Back in May of 2012 I questioned the Skidplate??? coil cover as mine doesn't fix and hangs down more than a 1/4 in on all the middle spokes. It fills with sand in a few minutes. But I have since found that as easliy as it gets in it comes right back out. This due to just a very bad design. I had ask Minelab for a better fitting cover. They replied the don't have them yet. Again this was way back in May 2012 when the 3030 came out.

I didn't even get one with my unit.......standard pack. No big deal as I don't use them anyways.

Are you absolutely sure that the cover is not on your coil? On mine (standard pack) it was fitted so well that I didn't notice it at first.

Very sure. I can see the black apoxy resin filler on the bottom.

All of these complaints are rather alarming to a person that just purchased a CTX. When you pay this kind of money
for a product you certainly do not want to hear that a lame coil cover will not fit the coil properly or a coil is bad out of the box.. Minelab should bend
over backward to keep their customers happy. Expecially when this unit is the most expensive tool on the planet. Take a
hint from Whites and Garrett. That is how you keep happy customers.

I totally agree, this machine is not cheap by any means, I'm extremely upset that I had to ship off my ctx only to be told it was the skid plate/ coil cover that was coming off. If I had known about this coil cover I could have avoided having my expensive machine bouncing around a ups truck and traveling through the U.S. and being detectorless for 3 weeks.
