Coil Cover

I just purchased the Excalibur 1000,and today was the first time with it at the beach as soon as i placed it in the water (Ocean) the coil cover came right off and I just about lost it to the sea. Can anybody tell me how I can keep this on without it coming off? I was thinking about twisting wire from a coat hanging to keep it from coming off. but maybe plastic zip ties will work better:thumbup:

If you are going to use anything like that use tie wraps (zip ties). Also, check out some other posts on this forum. I have seen where people will coat their coil with marine goop and let it dry and use that as a cover. That way it is always on and touch-up is just a tube away

Another option, is to tape it on with black electrical tape. This is not a permanent fix, because it will still get water/sand inside. Then just cut or tear the tape, remove the cover and clean/wash off the sand, then retape it. Just another option, in case you don't want to use the marine silicone goop.
HH,

If using a silicone type sealant, make sure the stuff is suitable for use with plastics (polycarbonate), otherwise it will dissolve the surface layer of the coil cover and will not cure properly....learnt this the hard way and it's a big cleanup job to remove the improper type sealant. Most silicone products are okay but check the label to be sure...

a small bead of silicone is adequate.... I prefeer the clear stuff but to each his own.....I wouldnt do the zip ties ...and a coat hanger will make the coil go bananas....

You should be washing your coil off after using it in salt water, so go cheap, and, use black electrical tape. It's quick and easy, no mess. The next cover you buy may fit tighter. My S-8 cover is pretty snug and when it gets a few grains of sand inside, it is a bit tough to get off, but that's a perfect fit and it has never come off in the water.
