Coil Cover Removal

TG77

New member
To those of you who have or use coil covers this is a idea that might come in handy!

I have heard that if you do not periodically clean your coil cover the dirt can become magnetized and cause falsing.

But getting the cover off without destroying it can be a real problem. Those covers can be real hard to get off after they have been on for awhile!

One way I've found is to hold the edges of the coil under warm water for a bit then squirt some dish washing soap around the edge and let it set awhile then try to remove the cover. Another way is to take a tub of warm water, almost hot, and hold the coil to where just the coil cover is resting on the water surface. After about a minute or so, you can remove the coil cover. I guess the water temp was enough to expand the coil cover enough to allow you to remove it.

Thankfully, the coil is waterproof!!

I still am unsure if my 8" coil has a cover on it or not...it does have a seam around it on the inside and the outside, but I cannot seem to get it to budge any...Not too worried about it as I am most likely gonna get a new one when I send the machine in next month.

WHY DO PEOPLE USE COIL COVERS BESIDES THE DIRT.. I CLEAN MY DETECTOR EVEY NIGHT. SO NO NEED FOR COIL COVER..

Hi all, First BH-Landstar and others, the coil cover should come as standard, if not your being cheated! Some coils look like they have covers but do not. If you can't get a sharp knife blade down between coil and cover than you don't have one on it.The easiest solution for the cleaning problem is to ALWAYS remove the cover after every hunt, I do this while walking back to the vehicle by placing the detector under one arm and removing the cover with the other, if theres a tap nearby, give it a quick hit with the water (both coil and cover) Shawn the skid plates stop the wearing out of your coil as they are not cheap to replace, it's cheaper to replace a cover than an actual coil! The continual rubbing on the sand or dirt quickly wears out the plastic and wrecks the coil, I have done it my-self, as always a lesson hard learned. If I'm doing an all nighter than I remove and clean the coil and cover every time I stop for a break. Look after your investment guys! Live your drems! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:
