Coil Cover on x-cal 800

My sons x-cal is on the lam,,,,erratic signals if you hold the detector still with no motion, Also no change if you wiggle the coil or headphone wires. I have 2, 800s and 1, 1000 ...This unit with the yellow headphones has a crack around the outside of the coil and the other x-cals with the blue headphones have a coil unlike the yellow one. Minelab told me to try to dry out the coil but after 5 days in 90 degree heat its still the same. Wow cant believe it was 26.85 for shipping to Minelab,, I'm sure it needs a new coil, I guess its time to go back to coil covers or do the epoxy treatment.... The coils here look like they were poured in one piece, the one I sent back, sorry forgot to photo it looked like it had an outer covering and it was splitting apart at the seam. make sure you check the bottom of your coils, I think this one is gonna cost me.

Could be a split coil or a power cable failure(wiggle it and see) Norm. Yeah, it's gunna cost ya, unless you still got warranty. Those coils are about $300, but if anyone has a Tornado or BBS used and in good shape, it will save you some bucks. I applied the epoxy, but it rubs through and shows the black coil, after just a couple of hunts, but I scrub more than most. I will not run anything but coil covers from now on, BUT I wash them out after every hunt. If the unit seems erratic during a hunt, I may take it off and wash it out while there. Keep us posted and obtw, the last I heard there was about 200 units in line at Vegas, but maybe they are catching up.

Yes I'd like to know results on this,
on my Excalibur 2 1000 mine does same after unit gets wet, I can clean off and still does same, but if I don't get unit wet it's all fine, I've been debating about sending it in to get looked at, I may just send it in after labor day weekend?
Thanks for info
John

I wiggled all the wires, same erratic noise, will give an update when I get a phone call from them, the young lady at Minelab seemed to think about 2 weeks for service, now another storm (Danny) getting ready to visit us.
