Coil Cover / No Coil Cover?

Hello,
I know this is a boring rookie question, but is there any effect on depth, sensitivity, etc... using the coil cover? So far I've always used the cover with my Explorer II, but on previous detectors, I didn't have a cover. Just wondering if there is any loss from using the cover. Thanks.
Dave

its only a 32nd of inch thick if that.. and it will protect your coil

Use it, you lose nothing and protect the most sensative component at the business end of your machine.Jerry. <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

Sometimes when I'm hunting grassy fields where there is no chance of damaging the coil, I take the cover off. I feel that it can't hurt, and if there's a bit of black sand or something like that stuck on the cover it might make a bit of a difference in depth. I can't say I've noticed any difference though.
