Coil Cover issue with the 3030

Buried Crap NJ

New member
I have only been using the 3030 for the beach. My coil cover does not fit tight on the middle spokes at all. It fills with sand every few minutes. It really forgoes the light weight well balanced machine sales pitch. The detector will loose its fulcrum. We can't forget the weight factor either. I am not sure the sand affects the performance went filled with sand Like the Excalibur or GT. Those took a couple of hrs to get lots of sand in the coil cover. I know I don't need to use the coil cover. I don't want to chance a cut in the coil, besides the cost fact on the smart coil, none are available right now!

just taking the cover off will make it swing easier .....you can always buy a new coil.....not to mention black sand build up in all detector coil covers... not just this one .....lot of people.... dump em for that reason alone....

I to get a lot of sand in the coil cover and its not easy to get off to clean.I did coat the cover with marine epoxy because it seems to me to be kinda flimsy and I thought that would toughen it up a little. I've been thinking of epoxying the coil like I did to the GT and Excal but haven't done so..If I remember right Minelab doesn't have an issue with using the epoxy on the coil and it wouldn't void the warrenty. Not possitive on the 3030 so haven't done the epoxy thing on it..Has anyone info on this?

I seal the top edge around the coil and spokes with RTV which stays soft for easy removal if need be. this keeps all the sand and dirt out.
