Coil cover gone & some finds.......

Combination of work and appalling weather means I hadn't been out for a couple of weeks..............but managed a couple of hunts this weekend..:)

So whilst I couldn't hunt I took the opportunity to do something about the coil cover - I was distinctly unhappy with that cover on. Very easy I think for you guys in America to get hold of Truck Bed Liner......... not so easy in the UK........ eventually found a place online. So I got Protectakote - I went with the option of the paint rather than the spray. It provides a rubber sought of coating and provides a gritty surface where you have the bits of rubber. Did all the masking tape around the edges and it looks neat enough. Here it is:

Also I now have a strap system which means I can chest mount - far more comfortable than hip mounting.

So I did my usual beach - wasn't expecting too much because the weather has been that bad over the last couple of weeks that very few brave souls would have even considered a walk along it, certainly there has been no sunbathing opportunities. But I usually find that the other detectorists stay away and with the sand shifts it will provide me with enough finds to make me contented.

1st hunt was dry sand followed by a low tide wet sand hunt..........

Did the usual:

Disc 0
Notch 0
Sensitivity 12 o'clock
Iron Mask ON

And off I went.............. a good hunt, plenty of targets in the dry sand (actually still soaked underneath from all the rain)....... although for the first time in ages NO RINGS....... largely because the low tide area has changed and has a steeper bank now which, as I know this beach, isn't a good sign for finds.....

So here's what I found.........

Ha ha ha excellent.

God only knows why any American would want to sit on our beaches :surprised: Unless they are native to Alaska maybe??

One of my US friends said the best thing about European beaches is lots of topless sunbathing!!

looks like you've mastered that machine in short order... well done..

Still a long way to go yet....... Winter time will be the real testing ground - a few real trashy area's that have been trash for years to get me totally in tune with the sounds. At the moment I am digging every signal and predicting what it will be before I start digging, doing the trashy area's and getting so much 'feedback' from the GT forces me to really listen to what I am hearing. Also maxing the Sensitivity in cleaner area's is going to be interesting, the amount of signals when I did this for a short while was shocking..

That's my plan as well- To go back over my beaches this winter and dig any whisper or deep iffy signal. My normal routine is to scoop any target that sounds less than 9" deep regardless of how bad it sounds, but if it sounds deeper than 9" it has to give me a steady ID lock and audio to bother with it. I'm only doing this because at some of the beaches I hunt on the great lakes the amount of trash present is pretty bad and there are plenty of shallower targets. When winter hits I'll re-grid these areas and I don't care how deep and unstable it sounds I'm digging it.

I haven't really done much in the way of water or dry sand hunting for years until this summer. I'm just shocked at the amount of targets present at some of these beaches. It's obvious at a few places that they are ignoring everything but nickle signals. Why pass up any signal on the beach because though it's rare some gold rings can give an unstable signal and there are some gold rings that read as high as 180 on the meter. With all the signals some of these guys are leaving behind at some of the beaches I hit that should keep me busy this winter when I want to get my fill of beach hunting for rings.
