Coil Compatibility

I recently saw a Video where someone was using the 10 inch Elliptical Concentric on the GB/G2.It was only a test but it DID seem to work in the test as far as Audio goes.I don't know what the numbers were on the Display or how accurate it was.I also wonder how it would handle bottle caps even being a Concentric on a detector designed for DD coils.Has anyone used a Concentric In the Field on either GB or G2 for real world performance to see how it measures up? It seems to me like it would loose performance somewhere along the line.

Ron-----I don't know about the 10" elliptical concentric but I used the 8" round concentric off the Gamma on my G2 (imagine the 10" elliptical concentric would perform something similar).------I guess it performed sorta "ok"---it made the machine noisier & didn't get that great of depth. (IMO)-----I'm probably the wrong guy to be trying to answer your question because (in general) I don't like concentric coils nor do they give the performance I want/need in the mineralized areas I hunt. (again, IMHO)-----In any case, I'm sticking to the 11" & 5" DD's on the Greek series, GBSE or G2.------The concentrics you asked about may work fine for others in different areas on those detectors but they didn't for me.--------Del

As I stated, I prefer a good concentric coil for most of the hunting I do, regardless of the supposed 'mineralization' at any site.

I also favor smaller-than-stock coils, such as the 5

Monte, Like I said before in the other post a while back,I just want make sure before I purchase a new detector that I'll be satisfied so I won't have to sell or trade it back. After reading all your posts for years about small coils I agree 100% to the advantages of using them especially in the iron and other trash.I am also a small coil guy and it looks like the 5DD is treating You real well! The same with my C3SL with 5.5 coil. That little guy sure had me spoiled!
Of course it IS a concentric but after reading all the good things they are saying about the 5DD it Also must be a real killer in the trash and the masked targets. As you know...those midget coils will go where no coil has gone before!
It's still a toss up between the O8 and the G2/GB. I l haven't heard anyone say much about the battery life of the O8 but plenty of comments on the G2/GB.If they made a Dedicated Concentric for the G2/GB then I MIGHT be tempted to go that route with one on those but more than likely they would have to design the Circuit itself to use the Concentric. The way it is right now I would probably be happy with either detector and that's why I have been researching all the possibilities with either one...To see which would do the Most good for what I want and or need! Which ever route I take I will Definitely get a 5DD. Like I have posted a Bazillion times before...I hunt mostly in and around iron and other nasty trash and I think with either detector with a 5DD loop will do the job especially after what I have been reading.I know that You hunt in some very bad ground at times up there in Oregon and it seems like the G2/5DD is working Great for you but my ground isn't That bad so I'm sure I won't have a problem with either detector.
Thanks for the Coil lesson once again Monte! I appreciate reading all your comments and posts for years and have really learned a Great deal from all of it.As they say:Knowledge IS the key to success! I'm sure whoever wrote that, they were referring to Metal Detectors! Ha!

Yes, smaller-than-stock coils are the way to go ... at least for me. The White's Blue max 600 and 5.3 BullsEye coils measure 6
