Coil cables

Ace in RI

New member
Well, I did it. I now have the 5.5", the 800 & 1000 Tornados, the 12, 14, and 18" Excellerator coils for my GT. I know, I know...but this is a lifetime investment. We have a lot of beach here in RI, that's why it's called the Ocean State. We had a lot of pirates, too.

Anyway, I also have the 180 meter and Sunray scope. It all adds up in weight. Since the Sunray and meter are in the middle of the pole, I really do not need all the extra cable on the coils. The cables are wired to the coils so you are stuck with them. Is it possible to cut the cables in half and replace the 6-point jack? Has anyone tried this? Suggestions please.

You can shorten them, but I suggest you leave them long enough that they can still be hooked to the control box directly with at least some extra to spare.

You will see a small jumper in the connector of the Excellerator coils between pins 3 and 6. You don't need to have this, as pins 3 and 6 are connected inside the control box anyway.

On the Excelerators you will also find that the wires are shielded. The shielding is used as a conductor and not really as a shield. You will be able to see this when you look at the connector.
