Coil Cable Question

I saw a GoldFoot Coil for sale that has a small black box with the cable going through it midway on the cable. No information was added to the listing about the purpose of this box....There were 2 small screws holding a cover on...Any idea on this box.
 
I;m guessing it may be an aftermarket EMI filter
 
No, I have seen them before on the older BigFoot coil. First time for the GoldFoot coil.
 
There is a switch inside that box that will allow the coil to be used with either the early or later 6.59 machines. :unsure:
