Coil Cable Abrasion--What are you doing about it?

What is the most effective way to protect the coil cable from being shredded where it inserts into the lower rod? I've put gorilla tape on the sharp edges of the lower rod and on the coil cable itself. But now the tape is being shredded.
What say y'all.

I've had 5 E-Tracs, one for 4 years, that use the same setup and none have ever shown the slightest wear on the cable much less being shredded. How does that happen?

When I noticed how sharp the edge was, I got a bit of 220 grit sandpaper, followed by 400 grit wet/dry, and smoothed it, then taped both the edge itself (a frustrating bit because of the angles involved) and the cable. If there is one gripe I have with the CTX3030 in general, it is the number of sharp edges left by the manufacturing process. Hear that Minelab?

I believe the reason for this is the tautness of the coil cable. When I'm swinging the ctx, the coil cable is pulled pretty tight and is rubbing against the sharp edge of the lower rod opening. With my e-trac the cable was on the outside of the lower rod because of the Sun Ray probe connection.
Maybe shredded wasn't the correct word. "Cut" may have been a more accurate word. The cable is showing "rubbing" wear and a "crease" where the cable rubs on the lower rod.

Here's what I have done.

A short piece of automotive flexible wiring conduit, avaiable at any car parts stores, should work. It's split so it can go over the cable without removing the shaft and coil. It's made from black plastic and would blend in with the machine. I may try that, as I haven't protected that area of the cable yet on my CTX, and it might be a good preventive measure.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up getting a split wiring loom from an auto parts store and used that to cover the cable. Took the ctx for a short hunt tonight and the loom seem to work really well...so far.
