I'm starting to think that the quality of the racer line isn't what i thought, now some of you may say I'm wrong but when i'm at a great spot and the coil seems too not stay put and when i slightly snug it and one of the nuts falls off and i look at it and its hallow i gotta say "are you kidding me" you can't even make these solid i start too scratch my head what else did they do to cut costs now with this said I'm wondering what others have done or used instead of the hallow coil bolt? I have tried a white's but it was to big for the coil ear holes any idea's or has Makro made the coil bolts better? thank you Sasquache

The shorter-length bolts that were used with the original Racer, with the regular-looking bolt head and nut, were a hollow design and from early in the original Racer history, broken bolts were discussed. Makro Detectors was very quick to address any issues that came along, such as the broken coil ears due to plastics used, then even reengineered the new Racer 2's 7X11 DD coil to use the solid and well proven Nokta Detectors FORS series coil.

The bolts I received, and others I hunt with when they bought their new Racer 2, were the longer, lever-style bolts used on the Nokta FORS series models. I had the original Makro Racer short bolts break twice on me and long ago went to the Nokta bolt. That's all you need to take care of your situation. Just contact your dealer and let them know what occurred with the original Racer hollow bolt.

I do agree that the coil bolt snafu is a major PITA! You can use the arm cuff bolt for a coil bolt if you're in a jam in the field. Makro sent me replacement bolts for my Red Racer coil bolts, but they were just a different hollow bolt

The new bolts will break also. I had one break on my brand new Racer 2. I went to True Value hardware and purchased some 1/4" nylon bolts and wing nuts, and replaced all of the bolts and nuts that came with my racer coils. They are a little smaller in diameter than the makro bolts, but they work fine, and I haven't had any problem with broken bolts since then.

Its so funny sent Makro a e-mail about the coil bolt breaking and got a response in freakin there language now thats crazy so i just ordered a bolt from another company here in the us what is up with shipping my gosh its more then the part lol I'm so happy with my Racer but I'm seriously thinking do too quality/service  I'm leaning in the direction of going back to the Whites MXT excellent service and quality :thumb: , have a great day my friends.

Call the USA Service Center for Makro and they will take care of you in short time. I would like to add that if you have one of the earlier coils and when you use the new bolts be ready for coil ears to break. With the newer coils and bolts it seems you don't have to tighten bolt as much to hold coil in position. I just feel that the ears on the earlier coils had too much tolerance having to tighten bolt so much.

"If you don't get fixed up with a New Bolt PM me and I'll send you one 'Free Gratis'" (I have a few spares - I'm in the EU)

Doesn't anyone contact their dealer. I would think they should help in fact they better help or find another place to buy you stuff from!

I did contact the dealer LowBoy and i did purchase a new coil bolt but i will be keeping a extra from the hardware stare just in case  i do love my Racer and it is a great metal detector but i think Makro needs too look into the quality of the plastic there using in the 35 years of detecting i have never had a coil bolt break EVER but since I've been in contact with Makro they should take care of us detectorists so far

Wayyyyyyyyy back in 1999, when developing the first Minelab Explorer XS, I was on my way back from a field trial and arriving at the factory removed the detector from the mid floor section of my car.
The coil 'flopped' forward and I went to tighten the coil bolt but it wasn't there! Looking in to the floor of the car I saw the bolt on the floor inside. I reported this to the 'physicists & design team' in Adelaide and there was "consternation" about it! They went to the people who 'designed and made the bolt' who conducted their own trials and it was deemed "too hard and thereby became brittle"and broke.
They went onto reform the moulding process and eventually got a good mix of 'softness, hardness and firmness' and there was never a problem again.

That is so good too hear Des D maybe Makro has done the same thing
