Coil and Battery question

New member
Hello all
Got two quick questions. First is the 8 inch much better and faster than the 10 coil? I have read where it is superior for its size and much faster to swing ????
Second how is it again that you can tell when your battery is about to go on the sov GT??? Is is ok to just run it til its dead or does it need to be recharged close to the bottom to keep from loosing effectiveness. Not working as well?? Cant remember how to tell the time of death or approaching death of the thing????
Thanks for the help and advise.

.................................................................GRUMPY,.....................I like the 10 inch BBS coil!! I can cover a lot more ground with it even if I am swinging it slow and it is waterproof so I do not have to worry about damaging the coil!! The original 8 inch CoinSearch is highly rated in a lot of posts but it is not waterproof so I would be very careful with it!1 Later when I get more time I will figure out how to waterproof it and then I might use it more!! But for now very happy with using the 10 inch BBS coil!! I don't have a GT but i do have the XS and when the battery is fixing to go .......it starts acting very erraticly and emiiting a high shrill sound even holding if off the ground and soon it basicly stops working correctly...........but the sounds never die completely.....it just stops working correctly!! For this reason, I carry a back-up battery pack fully charged................for it is very hard to estimate when the batteries will die!!..............................In the future, I may try to get a 10 inch Tornado coil but not having one to compare with what I have .....makes it hard to decide...................... especially when my present set-up is locating a lot of old deep targets in very heavily hunted areas!!..........................................................................HH..........................Joe

G'Day Grumpy, I had a Sovereign Elite, for 2 yrs, Every time I came home from Detecting I would plug my battery in to charge it, even if it was only used for 1/2 an hour. It was left on all night , and turned off the next morning when I then took it out to the garage and put it back in to the detector. At no time did I ever have any trouble with the battery. I have been doing the same thing with my Explorer SE for the past year and 9 months and like wise, no problems. What do you expect, It's a Minelab, there bullet proof. All you have to do is tell it that you love it, treat it kindly, wipe it over with a clean cloth and it will do anything for you:cheekkiss:

Thanks Hungry; I was always wondering if the things could be damaged by charging before they run down or not. Aparently not your and Minelab said it would be ok to do it that way. I was told on the SE (got one of those too) that you should run it all the way down but will start doing it the other way. Never had much trouble with SE bat because of the meter til yesterday when the bats were charged and let sit about 5 mo and then used . they show half but didnt work right I dont think.
Thanks again.
