Coil Advice Needed

I'm thinking about buying a 15x12 s.e.f. coil for my E-trac. Does anyone else have one? I'm wondering if it gets much more depth than the stock coil. Do you think the 18x15 s.e.f. would be better? I'm leaning toward s.e.f coils because they have great target separation and accurate pinpointing. I'm also curious about the 16" Excelerator coil. Anybody use one? How do you like it? I'm curious to hear all of your thoughts and advice. Thanks

You know my opinion Dan..Youve seen the goodies ive dug out with my18x15 s.e.f....If you have alot of areas away from High EMI that large coil will work great..I am thinking of grabing a 10x12 sef to use in place of the pro coil on sites i cant use the Big One.I havent tried the 16 inch round excelerator...But you dont hear people raving about them like the sef....That tells me alot.No matter what size u get,you will be happy :).They are a great coil in my Opinion.Good Luck,HH

I use the 12X15 in football fields. Lots of folks do sports of various kinds on those fields and I find very little trash. You sure can cover a lot of ground. i can't pinpoint any better with the stock coil than I can the SEF. And people don't tend to stand around in the middle of the field and throw crown caps and tabs all over. That's more on the sidelines. I use the swingy thingy with mine. Use it all the time on the ET anyway no matter what coil. It's not a problem for me and extends my hunt time without pain the next day. FWIW...Jim

Dan, I will be curious to see what you end up with and if it increases your finds. I'm still doing well with the Pro coil and can't imagine another coil would do better. I keep thinking that nothing I am finding is that deep. I know the coil will go deep as I have dug deeper stuff. I got a wheat at the full length of my Lesche (all the way in the hole) plus 2". I'm thinking it's not the depth that's lacking, just the abilities of the detector that has brought out what I am finding. Ah well, maybe you'll let me try it out if it doesn't work out for you, lol. Another coil may be the only thing I can do once I've re-hunted all my hunted out spots. :)

I mostly hunt for coins in parks, fields and schools. I like the stock coil on the E-trac but I've seen Niagra pull some deep silver beauts out of the ground with his giant 18x15. It appears to have excellent separation even though it's a huge coil. Quite amazing. I've been dealing with tendonitis along the back of my forearm (extensors) and so I'm leary of the big 18x15 right now. That is the primary reason I'm leaning toward the 15x12. I'm just wondering how much more depth it gets over the stock coil. And, yeah, you're right, Niagra. I haven't heard much - good or bad - about the Excelerator coils. They got a 16" one for the E-trac.

Dan,im suffering from tennis Elbow/tenndonitis down my forearm..I use a swingythingy when my arm Hurts.I also have a strap i wear all the time just below my elbow..Puts pressure on that tendon with a little pad..Makes my arm feel alot better when wearing it.The nice thing with the minelab is they Like to be dragged on the ground. So I take advatage of that all i can :)...Slow N Low Style ...........HH

I also wear a strap around my forearm. It has two pads and is called a BANDIT. Takes the pain away when I wear it. It's great. I restored and seasoned an antique skillet and put it on Ebay. Right now it's up over $200. :super: Looks like that's going to pay for my new coil and I can spend the clad on something else at the end of the year. Life is good! :bouncy: The auction ends tomorrow night. I'll probably order my new coil next week.

I've watched Niagra go back to areas he has hunted to death with his Explorer. He hunted again with the big 18x15 s.e.f. on his new E-trac and started finding oldies again. I have a high level of confidence that the s.e.f. coils perform exceptionally well. I just am not sure how much better the 15x12 is than the stock Pro coil. Maybe it's not...I guess I'll find out.

Go to the Explorer forum and read the stuff about the 10X12. Might be comparing apples to spinach, but theres a lot of folks there explaining how much better the 10X12 is over the stock coil (Pro Coil). I have the ET and I like what the SEF 12X15 does for me. I haven't really had the opportunity to check out the deep as opposed to more area coverage =s more finds in the same amount of time spent swinging. It's gotten so dry that I'd get everyone is 4 states banned if I tried to dig the deep ones I hear. Have to wait until late Fall and lots of rain.
Might want to investigate and consider the 10X12 also. The Explorer forum folks claim they are going over areas they hit with the Pro coil and are finding lots they missed. My guess is the 12X15 is at least as deep and probably deeper...all other things being equal. Jim
