Found this in what appears to be a Civil War Campsite Trash Site. Maybe a coffee can....bottom is smaller than top...appears to have had a wire handle on top. Also found in same hole-bent musket barrel, numerous buckles, one bullet, three bricks, other misc. items that seemed to have been discarded in the hole.

to make coffee over an open fire, more like a coffee pot. I found one somewhat similar but more complete with a spout near railway tracks that I think it was an oil can, but yours looks too rusty for that.
