Bryce, I must admit with only 10 hours on the SE, I strayed from your advice to stick with the factory presets as i went out with a friend. He made some adjustments, what I am not sure and i have been on this setting for about 6 hours, I do know that on a 4 hour hunt in 4 locations, neither of us found anything satisfying. We were digging deep clad and moved on.

I do know that my threshold tone is much different. Sometimes it sounds like the famous 'riff" in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Moves all over the place and took some getting used to. I am weak and it was difficult to leave well enough alone due to the quality of his finds vs. mine; especially since he was the one who convinced me I needed a minelab.

I do know that you mentioned that in pinpoint, if the smartfind moves out of coin position you walk on. What if one angle does this but not another angle?

Also, I did dig a worn '17 merc today in a hunted out park and although I was expecting to dig 7", it was only 3 or 4. i knew it would be a difficult find because the tree roots were intense. I just got lucky when my lesche, in between the roots, brought to the surface the coin. any feedback here.

Hopefully, you will still be willing to help me, as my plan was not to stray from your advice.

Everyone..let's get out the wet noodles and have at him........... I'm sure Bryce will be the first to admit that his advice, like mine is just that......advice. There are too many variables to go by a hard set of rules. Although his advice may well work for most of the people most of the time, keep three things in mind. Always trust your audio over the cursor, go with your instincts and when in doubt, always dig. That is how you learn what is a bad or good target. On a bouncing cursor that goes W-E or NW to SE in the upper right corner, I almost always dig. Especially when deep. If the cursor in bouncing N-S I will let it go. I hunt in Ferrous with a little bit of IM.

NOT:crylol: :bouncy:
Actually what Larry-IL said....I could not have said better myself. He absolutely hit the nail on the head with everything he said.

If you have a friend there hunting with you...and you feel comfortable experimenting...go for it...and start havin' some fun.
