Coal vs. Pinpointer

RedRabbit

New member
Hello,

Need help from the coin shooters, please...

We live in a boomtown 18-19th century area with a lot of activity during The War of 1812. There were also numerous Native American settlements. The ground is full of coal - I must have dug enough to keep a house warm for a week. Although I'm using a cheap stud finder with my Tesoro Compadre at the moment, I'm looking at pinpointers that can discriminate. Once I'm 6" down in a hole, it's me and the pointer. The stud finder is like a Labrador with a tennis ball - coal, coal, coal. I looked long and hard at the KellyCo Vulcan 360, the Minelab, and the Garrett. Even the Treasure Products 580 (we live around a lot of water). I love my little Compadre. Can someone help me find the right pointer, please? Thank you to all who read and take time to reply.

only the sunray prob could discriminate since it uses the detector as it's brain.. not sure they make them for your but you could check. Otherwise the TRX is the current wet depth leader.. sold as weather resistant it can be submerged without fear.

I agree, the X1 probe is the only PP that can discriminate. I like the Garrett pinpointer, I have the Minelab but it is squirrely all the time. All pinpointers are all metal mode and they can be a PITA in trashy soil.

Sunrays are the only pin-pointer/probes that can discriminate, but they don't make them for Tesoros.

To All,

Thank you for the information! I am doomed to dig coal, I suppose.

Great information, however, and more gadgets for my hard earned cash:)

By the way, yowow#1, does that mean the Sunray is made for a specific detector if not Tesoros? Thanks to all who replied. At least I know I'm not crazy, at least for the time being.

Sunray makes them for Whites, Fishers, and Garrett. They did make them for the Minelab FBS detectors, but have been discontinued. Sunray has a forum on findmall and Ralph is always very helpful, Good luck

To say they discriminate is probably not accurate. What they actually do is play the role of a 1" coil and give you the same readout information and tone variances your detector coil does, based on your machines ability. Or like any other probe you can use them in all metal mode just to pinpoint.
