Had a club hunt last Saturday at Lenox College complex located in Hopkinton, Iowa. The college started in 1859 and operated until the 1940's - now it's utilized as a County Historical Museum Complex and our club gained permission to hunt. Several members found old Indian Head pennies and a couple of V-nickels, and some jewelry. Only one silver dime was found during the hunt - I believe the grounds have been hunted hard in the past and the silver cherry-picked.
I found a couple of wheaties, a necklace medallion, coca-cola pin, some old buttons, and a civil war token. The civil war token obverse reads: THE FLAG OF OUR NATION - 1863; and the reverse reads: IF ANYBODY ATTEMPTS TO TEAR IT DOWN - SHOOT HIM ON THE SPOT. It also has "DIX" in the center, I know these could be roman numerals, but does anyone know what the "DIX" stands for???
Thanks and HH - Hawkeye Jim.
