Clouds Rest Hike in the Yosemite NP backcountry- June 2014

Well, before I begin I might as well say that I did not get to summit Clouds Rest that day, although there is always next year. And now that I know what I will be up against, I will be even more prepared.

Anyway, on my first camping trip of this past summer I decided to attempt Cloud's Rest on my first full day at the campgrounds. I woke up to temperatures of around 35 F at 6AM, and had to make a quick but groggy walk to the bathroom. I ate a nice breakfast of oatmeal and jerky, got my gear together, and drive about a half hour down Tioga Road to the Tenaya Lake area of the back country where one of the trail heads to Clouds Rest is.

I met a guy from Taiwan that I spent most of the hike with until we got closer to the summit, which is when he went ahead. It is always fun to meet and talk to people from all around the world while out hiking in Yosemite, or just about anywhere for that matter.

I will let the video do the rest of the talking. This video is only a series of photographs, with music.:) I hope everyone enjoys.

Photos taken with the Kodak Zx5.

Well composed interesting pictures that kept you glued to watching the video. Was that snow in one of the pictures? Are there fish in the lake and did you see anyone fishing? I must say that I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing! Kelley (Texas) :)

Yes what Kelley said. God's work always amazes me. There is NO other that can do as well. Thanks for taking us along, I enjoyed the hike from my chair very much...... nge

Kelley, on the way up the first set of switch backs we did come aross one or two patches of snow, even though it was mid-June by then. I would imagine they all but disappeared a few weeks later. And yes, I did make a snow ball.:) Not everyday I get to see snow.

I did not see anyone fishing, but I know that many of the lakes up there were stocked with fish by the NPS up until the 1980s or 90s I want to say. They no longer do so because the fish are all invasive species. Naturally, these lakes have no fish. The good news about the NPS not caring about the fish is that you can fish up at the lakes as long as you have a license.

Thanks for the great video.....brings back MANY memories...very nice video...thank you...

Ive never done it in one day....i doutbt i could have done it....some do i suppose....im sure you know that the top is fairly narrow and perhaps 100 yards long....and for those who dont know it...Clouds Rest is higher than Half Dome....when your are on top of Clouds Rest, you look DOWN on everything in Yosemite Valley....when we did it, we made it a 3+day trip out of it(usually mid july)......access to fresh water can be an issue in the summer....june is a different story...brrrr (mornings) and there is always the danger of rain and lightning near the top
great video and very nice music....

The fact that the last 100 yards or so is a narrow pathway was one of the reasons I chose to stop a few hundred yards from that section of the trail. I was feeling sick to my stomach and did not want to risk falling 1000 feet. :)

And the mornings at the campground I stayed at while there were chilly. It was in the 30s every morning.
