Clothes line saves the day!

Hi Folks,

Just got my ACE 250 from Kellyco. Spent about 90 minutes in the yard . Property predates
the civil war, however, at least two houses have burned down here and there is trash galore.
After spending an hour digging rust, tin, and aluminium, I remembered the old clothes line.
I quickly located the old metal poles broken off below ground level. I started hitting targets
right away and for the next half hour was digging coins and small hardware bits that made it
through the washer in pants pockets. So far, all silver rosies and wheaties. Very target rich
area however, with target overlaps, confusing signals and dry holes. It will take me a while
to work the area but I should be a lot more familiar with the Ace 250 when I finish. Best part
is it's in our backyard. LOL! I promised the wife I'd do dinner tonight but I'll give it heck
tomorrow. Regards, Jim

..."all silver Rosies..." indeed! Here Ive very nearly given up on their existence and you are popping only them and Wheat Cents. :)

:usaflag:Yup..clotheslines are a must. The old one in my yard yielded a few coins. Going to hit it again when my sniper coil arrives.:usaflag:

Sounds like a great place to break it in.. With a place like that, I would clear the
top stuff and trash out bit by bit, and then go for the deep stuff later when the ground
is cleaner. As it is, the upper stuff will help mask the older deeper stuff. You can bet
there are a few goodies there if it's that old. Both coins, and relics.

Hey Dahut,

There is an obvious reason why I'm cleaning up on rosies and wheaties and you aren't.
I just got my Ace 250 and got started here today. You've been at it for much longer and
have obviously cleaned them out. They don't make them any longer you know. LOL!
Regards, Jim

Pictures please or we may not believe you are digging silver. LOL OR we just like pics.

Jeff

Yeah clothes lines are always good areas for coins and goodies. Glad you're getting the hang of detecting with the 250. There will be more goodies to come.

Hey Jeff,

I'll see what I can do about a picture. I believe I need to get the camera batteries on the charger.
I'll try to post something tomorrow night. I'll be tickled pink if I can find a Mercury dime. I've
always had a thing about them. LOL! Warm regards, Jim

Great finds.... I think Ill hit the
backyard here at see whats up ( or DOWN i guess)

Happy :detecting:

Yeah Uncle Willy,

Woudn't ya know, my first target dug on the clothes line was a 1946 rosie. If
memory serves, 1945 was the last year for Mercury dimes. LOL! Anyhow, I'm
up drinking coffee and getting ready to return to the clothes line. Just the thought
of maybe getting one of those illusive merc's and I'm raring to go. LOL
Warm regards, Jim

You do have a point!

Hey Ron,

Good luck in your back yard. If you come up dry, come on over. LOL! Coffee will be on.
Don't forget the clothes line. Warm regards, Jim

Hey Folks,

I just spent another hour on the clothes line. More empty holes than
treasure! LOL! I'm gonna have to work on my pinpointing for sure.
Anyway, so far only 2 silver coins. Both rosies, one a 1946, only a
year past the Mercury cutoff. Tsk tsk. I want a Merc bad. Anyway,
also about a dimes worth of wheats and 1 memorial, couple of
nickels and a clad quarter. Chunk of lead, dog tag, key, 10 gram
scale weight and a bunch of cut nails and rust. I finally got cold
and needed a cup of coffee so I headed for the kitchen, swinging
the Ace as I walked. About 10 feet from the clothes line I hit a loud
and clear bell tone that read both ways as a nickel. I dug it and
found the 10 K Mason ring. Danged! I'm not even believing this.
I've got less than 3 hours on the new toy, still having trouble
deciphering what it telling me and coming up with quite a few dry
holes, but.......I've got silver and gold! Go figure! Warm regards,
Jim

Oops! My bad. The ring was not a Masonic ring but rather it was a
high school ring. Did not have the school name on it. Just had a gold
school emblem on front. Anyway, was able to identify the school
through a neighbor and determine who the owner was. He had lost
it in 1974 and was plumb tickled to get it back. LOL! He was grinning
from ear to ear. Warm regards, Jim

Hey Jeff,

Well, I posted a couple of pictures a few posts back in this thread.
You said to make it more "believable". Frankly, I'm not sure it worked. LOL!
I still cannot believe the silvers and then a heavy gold ring as I was walking
back to the house to get some coffee. Nobody here knows me from Adam,
and if I keep making outragious claims, they may not want to. LOL!
Being a southern boy of long standing, I solumnly swear, on my Dale
Earnhart hat, that everything I've said here was true and no finds were
salted to improve the story. LOL! And I quickly found the rings owner
and returned his class ring 33 years after he lost it. He was one happy
camper. He kept shaking my hand, grinning, and I swear I think I saw
a tear. Hope you folks don't think I'm full of it. LOL! The Ace 250 did
all the work. Warm regards, Jim

Don't think you are full of it, pictures pretty much prove that what happened really did happen. WTG!! HH!!

Good stuff. Check that dog tag - a bunch of Charleston slave tags have turned up lately.
