i did a search on cameras, and it didn't really bring much up,wondering if anyone can clue me in to a digital camera in the mid- price range that is going to get me some clear close-ups of , for example maybe some back marks on rings, thanks for any help!

Look for one that has a Macro option

Most digital cameras have a closeup function on them, it is the symbol of a flower on the selection wheel. I have a Kodak easy-share 4.0 mega pixel camera that I got 4 years ago (if you see any of my posts, I used this camera to take the pic's), I want to buy a new one with more mega pixels. I would suggest not getting one with less than 4 mega pixels though. But unless your a professional photographer, a basic digital camera will do just fine. Just remember to check if it has the flower icon on it.

Oh yea, also to get giant size pic's in your posts, I upload all of my pics to http://flickr.com/ , then when I want to use them in a post, I just copy the page address of my picture and it is super sized. (unlike if you were to upload a photo directly to this page, it has to be within a certain size)

here is some of the close-up pic's I have taken: just click on the pic's to enlarge them...

Try using a jewelers loupe in front of the lens of a camera on macro settings or even a magnifying glass in front of the lens of a camera without macro. This pic was taken with my LG cell phone with the magnifying glass off my swiss army knife. Good luck!

Two of my cameras have not only macro, but double-macro. And as TreasurdigginNY shows, I have seen good results.

I try to take the pictures out in the sun. I find that when the flash goes off, you get a wash out on one side of the picture. Afternoon sun usually works the best as you don't get your shadow in the pic when the sun is at an angle. I place the coin etc on a piece of white paper then shoot several pics. One usually comes out best.

Good hunting, John K

I like the Cannon Power Shot 630, it has all kind of extras. The view screen is as big as the camera. I also use ACDsee software, great to edit with, resize and crop. Also go for managing photos, I have several disk drives full of different kinds of photos.

In the field, I use my old Kodak camera. Check out C-Net reviews about the different cameras.
