Close up of CZ bracket for Donny nj

therover

Well-known member
Donny,

Here is a close up of the CZ bracket hooked to the straight shaft. Like I stated, the tricky part was finding nut/bolt assemblies just the right length, and holding the nuts in place while you thread the bolt into them.

Rover Thanx so much for the pic....would it be possible to show a closeup of how the screws go thru the bracket, etc.....I'm a bit unclear on that part of the Modification....cant really tell by the pic shown here?

cant wait to do tis to mine..
Anderson Fisher Regular Shaft
HH

I have also seen the Anderson Fisher REGULAR straight shaft which seems to already have the bracket on the shaft???..

Rover... that shaft looks great. Did you fabricate it? I'd like to have one like it for use with my chestmount for my CZ-3D.

Donny,

The bolts are not through the bracket. The bolts go through the shaft and through the Fisher rod part I cut off, but the nuts that the bolt thread into, are IN the cylinder of the Fisher rod part. I will take a picture of the inside of the rod part so you can see, but the holes that I drilled into the Fisher part only go through upper part ( the part that does not have the bracket attached to it) only...not entirely through both sides. So the bracket DOES NOT have any holes drilled into it.

The Anderson Fisher shaft may have the bracket attached to it. Anderson shafts are nice.

Ended up selling the Excal but kept the Babbs straight shaft.

I just got a Plugger straight shaft and will be doing the same thing for my other CZ6a and attaching the Sunray FZ12 to that one so I can have one with the smaller 8 inch coil and one with the bigger Sunray on it.

I may be missing something here but why can't you just remove the plastic hold on bracket from the top of the CZ rod and remount it on the bottom of your rod and slide the CZ control box on...never tried it but seems to me like easy mod.

I have older model rod assemblies where the bracket is metal and riveted onto the rod. Since I got a rod assembly free, I did not want to pop off the bracket, so I just cut the piece off and kept the integerity of the bracket mount intact.

what do you do when the grass is wet?

Do you set it down anyway??

Seems like the control box will get water in it.

Thanks...........see ya yardhunter

Id love to see more pictures thanx in advance.........then I can make a decision either to attempt the MOD or just buy the Anderson Fisher CZ straight rod i dont even know if it has the right bracket for teh CZ5 ....it only states 1280, cz20,cz21......dont know if that is the same bracket?..if not I'll make one like yours if i can.

First off, it's a CZ6a, so it's pretty water resistant. If I am using this rig for land hunting, I have one of those bracket type attachments Plugger makes that can hook onto the shaft to keep the unit off the ground.

If I am beach hunting, I hardly ever put the unit down since digging is pretty easy.

But it is a good point if one wants to fashion a CZ5 or CZ3D like that since the speaker grill would be on the ground. I never use an external speaker and always use headphones so the speaker grill on my CZ3D is taped up.

Donny, the brackets that the 1280 and CZ20/21 slide into are different then on the land CZ units ( 5, 6a, 3D).

When I mounted my CZ20 on a straight shaft, I had to get a piece of heavy aluminum and cut it to fit the CZ20 slots so that it could slide onto the piece of aluminum. You can try to fashion a piece that a CZ5/6a could slide onto.

It was easier for me to just cut off that piece, since I got the rod assembly for nothing ( thanks again PryorCreekJoe !).

Rover ....I thought so thanx for the info....now i remember when I had my CZ20 its a different braket.....I really want to underarmcup mount the CZ to a straight shaft your mod looks the best to go with i almiost always use the 10.5 coil so this mod should make a good alternative to hipmounting on a belyt. .......please post some more CLOSE UP pictures of the screws, briaket etc ...so I dont make a mistake.... I guess then a BABBS Straight shaft should do the trick...I allready have the factory fisher cz rod here....

If it's a CZ 6..I agree. Won't matter anyway. Regarding beach use, I'm with you.
Unless the target is extremely deep requiring 2 hands, I rarely set the detector down either.

Thanks for the post.
Good luck..............see ya yardhunter
