Close calls with the batteries last night.

I have my Golden Sabre II leaning behind my bedroom door. Last time I used it was Sunday before last. Anyway...I stopped to look at it for a minute and check the speaker hole size as that is where I have decided to route my ground balance and notch width wires (going to put the pots topside with double sided tape). As I was studing the faceplate I happened to notice a white stain moving up the crease where the pole mount is. Oh no!. I knew exactly what it was....battery acid!

Sure enough there was white all around the battery door holder. Opened it up and pulled the trays out. Yep...one of the new batteries I had put in it two weeks ago had leaked, ruining the ajoining battery as well. Good news was that I caught it quick enough that it didn't run anything else. It was moving up and not down. Got it all washed and cleaned up. Pulled the board and checked inside and on the board. All looks good. So dodged a bullet there!

I have never had any trouble with the Ray O Vac AA batteries before now but evidently I got a bad one is this box as it went bad two weeks after I put it in . So just a little note to keep your eyes on your batteries.

These past few years I have found 2 different "top name" brands of alkaline batteries leaking like the old carbon/zinc batteries of the past :yikes: Good "heads up" on reminding people not to leave batteries too long in their detectors regardless of brand!
