Close call at the soccer park

I was hunting a soccer park that I've hunted for a few years now. It has coughed up a lot of good targets so its my favorite spot to hunt.
A groundskeeper pulled up next to me on his gator and asked if I was searching for something in particular. I said just detecting.
He then told me I was on private property and I can't be digging out here. I said that I have been searching here for 3 years.
That I am very careful not to disturb the sod and always return it to its original condition. I pick up trash and remove sharp objects (showed him a kitchen knife blade I dug earlier).
Told him I really liked coming out here and would do nothing to jeopardize that privilege. Is there a way I can continue to detect here?
He said he noticed that I left no evidence of digging and appreciated that I do more good than harm. He said, go ahead, have fun.
I couldn't believe that I actually changed his mind. ME SO HAPPY!.

I left shortly after because players were gathering. Going back tomorrow at daybreak.

Not only that, today I dug my first (badly worn) standing liberty quarter...at the soccer park no less!
Though I already have some in my coin collection, it was nice to break that particular barrier.

Alas, the diamonds are junk jewelry but the rest is silver.

That's how you do it! I had a similar experience 2 years ago at my local soccer field. After showing what I had removed, they told me to have fun. Amazing what good Karma will do :)

Excellent! Sometimes a little conversation is all that is needed. Nice work all the way around..!

ah good story. Now we'll all go hunt private property, and wait to change the minds of passerbys with big smiles and friendly chat! :) (nah, just kiddin' :))

You might want to carry one of those small tote bags with you to collect
the trash in. DON'T THROW THE TRASH AWAY. I used my bag of trash
to show one park superintendent all the junk I was digging out and carrying out
of the place. He liked that and said GO AHEAD...just don't make any big
holes.
