Close but no cigar!

Went out yesterday after work and hit an old trashy park. I purposely selected the trashiest section of the park to try out my new 5x8DD Garrett coil and I wasn't disappointed. I hit a cluster of signals some mid-tones and some iron grunts and in the mix, I caught a shadow of a high tone. I continued swinging over the spot, narrowing my swing slowly until the high tone was in there consistently. After a few more swings, the Pro seemed to bite down on the signal and suddenly I was getting a beautiful high tone with a beautiful Target ID of 81-82. The Pro said the target was 8" but the dime was actually 5-6 inches deep. Tried and tried to find a D on the reverse but alas! I had to concede that there was none.

But you still found a silver that you probably woundn't have without the 5x8. I know the feeling, though. If only the 1902 S Barber quarter I found a few weeks ago had been a 1901 S, it would have been worth at least $6500, sigh.
