I call it a "cliff ring" because one quarter of a step for me and that is where I would of ended up - at the bottom! I was scanning a little foot path at the edge of a cliff in a heavily wooded section of a local park. At the bottom of the 20 foot cliff: a bunch of boulders and a brook were waiting to greet me. All that I know: I certainly did not want to make the acquaintance with either one of them! First, I found the merc right in the middle of the path. On the way back (I was so tired from the muggy / humid weather, I decided to just hold my coil just a few inches over (where the cliff started its downward turn) and walk. 20 seconds into detecting this lazy way I suddenly came across this faint #84 high tone that squeaked out through my headphones. I scanned back over the target and sure enough it was a very "smooth" signal. (using pro mode) Very carefully I stepped towards the ledge and dug in. I am glad the soil was super soft! I then scanned with my Garrett (well borrowed ) pin pointer and located my target lying approx 5" deep. The results - one beautiful Sterling silver ring! All the years I hunted this park, I never walked down this little foot path. (I guess I am becoming brave lol) This is the same park and not all that far away from where I found my (2)Three Cent Pieces. With this lightweight detector, I am hunting more wooded areas of my parks and is working well for me. Moral of this story: 1) don't fall off the cliff and 2) scan every area of your parks including the wooded areas. Even heavily wooded places you think you wouldn't find a penny. For me, scanning the woods of my local parks has netted me some super nice finds! Thanks for looking - Jim
