Clearwater beach RANT!

My turn to rant now. Yesterday morning I headed out to Clearwater beach to hunt the water after the weekend power boat race. No surprise to me there were quite a few hunters in the water including me but what I thought was an unusual amount of dry sand hunters too. I even saw a large group of women hunting too.

After hunting the water and when low tide had arrived I moved to the wet sand. By the time I was done I started to head back to the car which took me across the Hilton beach area where I found/saw a bunch of holes dug with the article or piece of trash laying on top of each pile of sand that was dug up. Whom ever is doing this needs to learn to take the trash with them! and, then cover up the hole they made. I have no idea who is doing this but if you make the effort to dig the hole at least pick up the trash and cover the hole. Don't put the trash back in the hole! Take it with you and discard it later.

I wish I had a camera with me so you'all could see what I'm talking about. It's obvious and ridiculous! People who stumble upon the little holes with trash laying next to them know exactly who is doing this. US the metal detectorists. I makes this hobby look bad. SO QUIT DOING IT!

Unfortunately ignorance is not a crime. If It was we would be pretty lonely. Stupidity like that will eventually bring metal detecting to end. It's just a matter of when.

If you come across a moron who does not fill their holes and also leaves their trash beside the hole......it might not hurt to snap a photo with your cellphone (if possible) and post the photo on this forum or better yet let's have a new forun entitled MORON ALERT - with a photo gallery of these jerks.......nothing like a little public shaming to make them change their ways........OK I am just kidding about that new forum.

I stopped a few guys on St Pete beach earlier this year and explained to them that we have a duty to fill in the holes. Both were on vacation and were using low end machines.

That is just sad, last thing I would want, being native Floridian, are people not only putting holes everywhere, but re-littering the area. Clean up the beaches, I tell all my customers that want to go to the beach and tell them, even if you find trash, youre still helping to keep the beach cleaner. Same applies everywhere, but you see littering most on the beaches here. At least do it for the wild life. :(

Some people just think they are right and the world is wrong. I have hunted Clearwater beaches many times and have had to tell a few how this detecting game works along with other beaches. Most said they thought the tide would take care of it ( Bull $@#%) but if you REALLY explain about the hobby most not all but most will correct their habits. And I might add if your children dig a hole as big as a Volkswagon make them fill it back. That will always help. Leave things like you found it. HH :minelab:

Bad form, bad habit, Lots of folks walking, jogging, and running on the beach here - Daytona. I never want anyone coming up to me telling me they fell in one of my holes. i don't leave them unfilled in the drier sand. Holes near the tide line are a lot harder to fill, but I try. This is my backyard and I want to keep coming back. Rainyday makes a good point and will try Eddie Current's approach when I see this.
