Hi All, Just wondering how you clean your 1cent coin, pardon me for not understanding your ways. :surrender:

Today I found a US 1cent, 1995, South west of Sydney, Australia. :ausflag:

Thanks Heaps
Elroy:garrett:

Hi Elroy, I can't comment for others but as for me I through them in the garbage because they are heavily corroded and uncleanable, [junk].

The newer pennies are made of copper clad zinc and self destruct when they get wet with salt water!!

tumblers work great. as was previously said most zinc pennys that have been in the ground awhile aren't worth cleaning.

Hi Elroy.
Took some of my coins to the bank today to pay for my latest detector. Thought I has $710, but it was only $680. Half was alright, the other half I gave a quick hit with the steel wool. She made several comments as to how dirty the coins were. I almost said that' it's only filthy lucre. but I kept my trap shut as if I had to;d her why they were dirty, she would have handed it back. I'll have to figure out coin cleaning properly soon. I do have a tumbler, but haven't got the right medium to work with yet. Good luck with your zinc penny. My eldest son handed me a half dozen of them at the week end. He also showed me a couple of US quarters that he had. Hadn't seen one before. One was even a memorial!
All the best. Wish I could hunt around your parts, but it could be a long time before a get the next chance to.
Mick Evans.
