Cleaning up clad

Jiminsandiego

New member
OK so I know I should tumble the coins separately but..I just want to cash out about 3 mason jars of clad through a coin star machine. Can I put em in a 5 gallon bucket with ammonia or something? The coins are from the beach and the pennies are caked with sand, and the rest have crud on em also. I'm just looking for the easiest way to get these through the coins star machine.
Thanks for any tips, and I mean no disrespect to our currency, (but I wonder if we should have stayed with silver, gold and copper)

I would be temped to try vinegar, but not ammonia, that stuff could kill you.

If those pennies look anything like the green meanies ive been digging here in Fla even a tumbler dont get that off very well. Im assuming you dont have a tumbler. Like Larry said vinegar might do it. Ive heard a rumble from my bank and coin world that the government is considering NOT taking seriously damaged pennies any more. I guess we are lucky they havent went to some form of steel like some of the mexican and canadian coins. Try looking for those suckers with a detector.
