cleaning old buttons

i have found old buttons that are gold looking in color dont know if they are brass are gold buttons they seem to look in good shape but have green corrosion over a large part of button how can i remove any are all off corrosion with out damaging the button please reply thank u

I saw on some show where they were using a water pick like for your teeth to clean relics and coins. Do you have a water pick?
