what is a good solution to clean old metals? a buddy told me to soak them in olive oil but doesnt seem to be working. it might be copper or brass im not sure . it has a greenish corrosion on it.

Greenish corrosion could be copper or brass. I use WD40. Won't corrode the coins, cleans them quickly. Just be gentle, and wipe the dirt off as you go, or the dirt can act as an abrasive. Rinse in warm water and dry. I've used WD40 on copper, brass and silver. Doesn't devalue the coins.
