Cleaning encrusted old pennies.

Anyone used grape seed oil over olive oil? Or has anyone tried grape seed oil in ultrasonic cleaner. I have read an ultrasonic cleaner does less damage than a soft cotton cloth. Any ideas. They are soaking in olive oil at the moment.

I have used olive oil. But I like putting them in peroxide and microwaving for a while.

but is a gentle method. I like electrolysis if I know it's a common date coin.

Well here is what I have learned on this subject. Grapeseed oil is supposed to be better than olive oil for cleaning copper pennies. I just received a 750ML bottle of grape seed oil just today. My plan is to put the pennies in the ultrasonic cleaner tomorrow with the grapeseed oil. If it does not clean the pennies, then it is supposed to promote hair growth. So, if it does not clean the pennies, I can stick my head in the ultrasonic cleaner and regrow hair on my bald head. Whataya think!. I'm just sayin'. Oh how I miss my hair.

Ronbo--The only thing I can say, don't stick your head in the Ultrasonic cleaner  & just learn to be happy being bald! Yul Brenner was bald & he made lots of money being an actor!! Ma

Can you do that? I like my Microwave.
I do it all the time. I watch it. It is pretty cool it fizzes and sometime the penny will slide around in the bowl.

n/t

heat the peroxide then take it out of microwave then add penny. Right Travis???

I have pennies to clean & do you heat the peroxide first before adding pennies or put the pennies & peroxide in the Microwave together?--If needed done one penny at a time it would be a slow process for me for I still have lots to clean! I used to clean after each hunt but that ended when I had too much to do & didn't feel well either! Ma

Nope. I put the penny back n peroxide and heat it all in the microwave

Peroxide will work on grease spots on frying pans, pour a little water and mix with peroxide turn on heat -----gone:biggrin:

Thank you, Bill, & when I have an open sore on hand or foot I use peroxide to heal & it does! Also, I use sometimes as mouthwash for a sore throat, toothache or to whiten my teeth--diluted or not but sure foams like a mad dog foaming at the mouth! : Peroxide cleans & heals! Ma

thought metal was not good in microwave? New one on me.

Ma, having read this post. You would love Dr. Tichenor's antiseptic in your medicine cabinet. This stuff is the best. We buy bottles of this stuff at a time. We use it for insect bites, stings, sore throat, tooth aches, canker sores, making ticks turn loose, antiseptic, mouthwash. It was created by George Humphrey Tichenor back in the Civil war for antiseptic surgery. Back then if you got an infection on a leg or arm etc, they would sometimes have to amputate. This guy created this antiseptic and was pretty much the father of antiseptic surgery. Its pretty strong full strength for mouthwash. But if you have a tooth ache, it is instant relief.
