Cleaning CTX 3030

Stogger

Member
After a beach trip (I'm just starting out, so only 2 trips so far) I clean the CTX 3030 pretty thoroughly. I have to remove the plastic coil sheild/cover to get the sand out between the cover and the coil. Will removing this regulary cause any damage to the coil?

No but at some point you will need another cover. Very good idea to keep all dirt out of there. It can cause all sorts of issues.

No the cover might crack eventually but replacements are easy to purchase. I won't get into the cover on the beach thing, but you do need to keep it clean if you use one. The cover on my 17" coil was pretty much useless after I took it off once. It just didn't seem to want to go back on properly. I now have bed liner on the bottom of the coil. I do it with my Sovereign coils too. Bed liner works for me because I am a part time beach hunter. Full time beach hunters wear it out. They usually go the Epoxy route. It is aid that coating your coils could void the warranty on them. That's a chance I take. I stick my coil right in the surf break sometimes. I can't have a coil cover filling with black sand. It makes the detector eratic and unstable.

Thanks for the reply and the ideas. I had no idea if folks removed the cover to clean. I'll also look at the bed liner idea. I use the detector in the woods and clay areas as well as the beach.
