Cleaning Coins

What is the best way to clean coins that are found on the beach and in mulch. The one's in mulch are unreadable and the beach coins are just black.
I have heard about using an AC adapter and a silver spoon a plastic bowl but how good will it work?

The foil will disolve. Take the coin out with tweezers and drop into a damp cloth with baking soda on it. Rub. Don't get the black stuff on your fingers.. it's h%$# to get off. Also when spreading the coins from the tumbler on an old towel, scrup them back and forth to remove most of the water, or you'll get dark water spots. Good Luck!
