cleaning cobs

Anyone know how to clean a really crusty cob? I have no camera yet so I cannot take a pic but I think I have one but cannot clean it. I have tried washing soda and a electro plate with not much luck. Can anyone help me out on how to clean this properly?
Thanks

About half way down the page is some good info on cleaning cobs. HH.

Hi sftsweeper; I am not an expert but a piece of advice that I do use is to soak the Cob in "EXTRA" Virgin Olive Oil. It must be EXTRA virgin olive oil because for some weird reason the active cleaning ingredient in the oil will not work if it is not EXTRA virgin oil. I think the active ingredient is an acidity. It gets washed out if its not the etra. The acid is not stromg enough to damage the coin in any mmanner but will take off the corrosion without damaging anythng else in any way. What do do is to soak for about 3 - 4 days then rinse it off with water and a "VERY' soft toothbrush or something like that. Do not use any type of cloth as it will leave traces of lint on it ok.. Keep doing this until the details become clear and the dirt is gone. It is a "slow" process but it will not damage the coin in any way. When done to you satisfaction AIR DRY it. I don't know the Science behind it but EXTRA virgin olive oil cleans all metals I can think of without damaging the coin and it has very little effect to the patina as well. Remember the coin has been in tne ground for "ages" so a little patience willl work wonders for you ok. I hope this helps. Great find. Its not every day sonmeopne finds a Cob. I hope it works well and is a rare date or design and worth a small fortune for you. Best of luck on it. Keep it up. Scour that area and dig "everything" no matter how faint or iffy.Even if it sounds like trash. Items can lay on edge or be masked somehow. There may be more of them there ok. Best wishes and Post the pics when possible. PEACE:RONB :clapping: :super:  :detecting:
