cleaning clad

[size=large]i just did a bunch of nickels, dimes and qtrs. with some aquarium rock with white vinegar and water in my harbour freight tumbler for around 8 hrs. came out okay for my needs. pennies are always done separately. i use the same solution but only for about 3 hrs. this works for my little needs. nothing fancy.

I wait until I have gathered up enough of them, then sort them into 'type' of metal (three classes) and have a late-night cleaning session. Always separate the pennies into one group, then nickels into another, and then the 'clad' dimes, quarters, and halves into a third group. You can put the Sacajawea and newer President dollars in with the pennies, and the Susan B. dollars in with the 'clad' coins.

I posted my Coin Cleaning Tips that you can print out under the Tips & Techniques section on our website at www.ahrps.org that explains the steps I use. I use a Lortone brand tumbler, two-barrel type, and only have to tumble a batch of coins for maybe 30-60 minutes once i follow the cleaning and treating process. On real busy months I'd tumble coins after tallying up at the end of the month but our rainy and dreary weather has sure 'dampened my spirit' for reaching those types of numbers. I hope you have better weather and can get out often.

Good luck with your cleaning efforts.

I put my coins in all together. I teaspoon of liquid cheer and a cup of water goes into my rinky dink Hobby Lobby tumbler for 2 hours. They come out good enough to read dates. What use is it to get them like new? There only worth what they are, clean or dirty. I tryed what one guy told me "polishing powder" and they came our really roughed up like they were sand blasted, not nice at all.

fore very old or new coins i always put them all night in a cup with coca cola....they all come up nice and clean
