Cleaning a nickle

rimdig chuck

New member
The oldest thing I found so far 1941 nickle not very old I know but I found it at 6". Can anyone tell me how to clean this stuff safely? rimdig Chuck:unsure:

This is what I do, start out with a dug nickel that you don't care if it ruins it.
I use 2 Oz's of white distilled Vinegar.
small tea spoon of table salt.
Shake it up in a plastic pill bottle.
Drop in a nickle.
Check it like every 10 or 15 Min's, until you get the hang of it.
The nickel will come out a dull nickel color.
Use a small wire brush, the size of a tooth brush, and buff it with the brush.
I have used this on all the nickels that I have found, the oldest was a 1898 V nickel.
Works for me.
