Cleaning a coin?

Jim/ MacBeth SC

New member
Hi Folks,

Don't know how it got here, but I dug this English Cent from under a large root of an old oak tree. Somehow I managed not
to scratch it. I did the usual checking to see if it had any inherent value. It was currently worth about the price of a Whopper
Junior, coke and fries LOL! However, it was made of bronze rather than copper. Hmmm! Yeah, I know. Never clean or
polish a coin. Well sue me. LOL!. The bronze polishes up like gold and it's a lovely coin for show even though it had only
minimal value. I wish our pennies were bronze as well. They sure clean up nice. And the design, it's right up there with the
standing and sitting liberties. Pretty thing! But a long ways from home. Warm regards, Jim

I normally just rinse them with soapy water but when really dirty leave them in olive oil and get it out every now and then and remove the dirt gently with a toothpick.

Eric.

:usaflag:I drop my coins in hydrogen peroxide to lift the crud off. Does'nt seem to hurt 'em any.

Kewl Uncle Willy,

I knew there was something I liked about you.
Bronze + Brasso = "Poor mans gold" LOL!
20 years in the Navy will teach ya what will
shine and what want. Regards, Jim
