Cleaned Nickels

I finished soaking that V nickel that I last found. I am really happy about the shape, you can read every letter of Liberty in the crown. I decided to try a Buffalo nickel as well and it was pretty much dark red like the V was. The second picture is after a week of soak, changing the vinegar every two days and giving a light brush with a toothbrush. It is weird but as the red leaves the coin, it turns the vinegar a blueish green, kinda cool. The red color of the coins really went away and left behind the dull grey coins that are in the second picture. I then used a dremel tool with a cotton wheel and a little buffing compound to bring it back to life and shine it up a little. It even helped hide my shovel mark a little bit lol. I know that a lot of people are against cleaning their coins because of value, but I'm keeping these for my personal pleasure and wouldn't do it to a coin of great value. It is just so it is easier for me to see and share them. Hope that this helps for anyone interested in cleaning old nickels.

I'm very impressed! :clapping: Larry is soaking a "V" nickel right now. That sure makes it more appealing to the eye, but it's not for all coins. I'm sure most of you know that cleaning will ruin the value of old silver and gold coins. PLEASE clean those coins with a mild soap and water only. HH and thanks for the tips! Nancy

And she should know about old coins. She has enough.:lmfao: Rob

Tracy, good to see you on here bro!! We will haver to get out and plunder the ground again soon.

I'm looking foward to finding my first Buffalo nickel. I remember these when I was a kid.
If only I had known back then I'd have saved everyone of them.......maybe.
