clay beer bottle found leaning against a rock in the low tide mud...

circa 1850's...

This bottle came from a brewery which was established by H . Gruenhert, who emigated from Denmark in the early 1800's and settled in New Haven , Ct.

In 1816, Mr. Gruenhert was granted a petition by the Hartford General Assembly to establish his brewery in New Haven , Ct.

There were many breweries in New Haven during the 1800's....most established by German immigrants.

Most of these breweries were forced to close down as a result of the "dry spell" in the late 1800's.

I was fortunate to spy this bottle while metal detecting on the Ct . shoreline this past week.

Thanks for looking
