Hi, I see that there are classroom forums on here, but there are not any for MXT users? I really could use that! :sadwalk:

True, but we've got one heck of a great reader participation and many many users that are quite experienced with the MXT. All you have to do is just ask or go back and read other posts about whatever you have questions on. Glad you came across this forum. We can help! HH to all, Nancy

Hi Teak, Welcome. Unlike the DFX and XLT we don't have the programs to fiddle with, so therefore no classroom. The MXT is actually very easy to set up. We then need to practice to learn what the MXT is telling us. Like Nancy said, do a search on this forum for information, everything has been covered at least once. But don't worry we are always ready to help. Rob

Welcome Teak, there is a great bunch of folks here.

Thanks for the help, I will go thru the post's and start reading. I have been out a few times with my MXT, everytime I get a hit it always reads .25 and it has been foil, screws, a few quarters. I even tried with older coins we have here, 50 cent pieces and $1. and they come up as quarters, so I know it is the settings, I just need to figure that out....

Where are you located?

"everytime I get a hit it always reads .25" Are you saying all your hits read 25? The gain, disc, and Trac settings which are the only ones you have aren't going to change the VDI numbers. You should be getting 22 - 26 for tabs, 45 - 47 for tabs, 70 - 77 for pennies etc.

"and it has been foil, screws, a few quarters" Foil can give VDI numbers across the scale depending on their size. The same with the screws.

"I even tried with older coins we have here, 50 cent pieces and $1. and they come up as quarters, so I know it is the settings, I just need to figure that out..." The new small dollars will read like a quarter, but the half dollars and old dollars should read higher. Again, like I stated earlier, I don't know what setting changes will change the VDI readings.

Since you said you got quarter readings you must be in C/J mode. The gain (sensitivity) can be run as high as you need as long as the detector acts stable and gives a good threshold. The threshold should beset to be just audible. The disc setting will be used to eliminate targets you don't want.(you won't hear them but the VDI number will still read). I usually run mine between 2 and 3 to eliminate most nails etc. Rob

Thanks Rob.....I am in VA. And the older dollars were late 1800's I have been running in the C/J mode. The disc has been on 3 I know the more I practice the easier it will be, and I will learn these settings. There have been .01 and .10 hits too, but normally it reads .25 even on the older coin test.
